“If you want to write for yourself, get a diary. If you want to write for a few friends, get a blog. But if you want to write for a lot of people, think about them a little bit. What do they like? What are their needs? A lot of people in this country go through their days numb. They need to be entertained. They need to feel something.” – James Patterson, in a recent article on NYTimes.com.

Ding-ding-ding. No wonder that guy is a go-jillionaire. Writers are in show business, the ones who get it, and can deliver, are successful.

I also loved it when (in the same article), he said something to the effect of, “Thousands of people hate me. Fortunately, millions love me.”

I really enjoyed this article. Thanks for sharing, Kevin. I find myself split on some of the points Patterson makes, but one can’t argue against his wonderful success. His work has certainly reached the masses.
