2010 Gathering Update

Yep, it’s coming. I just hit SEND on this email announcement. Watch for more to come later this week.

Since the 2009 Gathering in Nashville you’ve flooded us with emails asking when and where the 2010 event will be. You’ve also given us great feedback on how to make the Gathering accessible to more people.

Well, we’ve run with those ideas and today we’re happy to announce that there will be not one, but two Gathering events in 2010, both on weekends:

Chicago, IL (4/17/2010)  AND  Dallas, TX (4/24/2010)

We’re calling the events Gathering 2.0 and they will be different than previous years. How? For one, they will be much less expensive. Less than the cost of a hardcover novel ($25). But, what that means is the event won’t be about dancers, performers, lights, and fog machines. It’ll be about Ted connecting with you and you connecting with each other. Each one will be several hours of Q&A with Ted with a few surprises thrown in. Think of it as a backstage event. You drive to the event in the morning, spend a few hours in the Circle, finish off with a book signing, and go home that same night.

The KICKER? Every attendee will receive a hardcover of Ted’s thriller The Bride Collector (which releases that same week) at the book signing. No additional charge.

Details are being finalized now for ticketing, venue, and times, but we hope to have those wrapped up before Christmas. A perfect stocking stuffer, maybe.

As soon as we have final information we will email everyone and also make it available on Teddekker.com, Facebook.com/teddekker, and Twitter.com/teddekker.

More to come very soon!

Sounds great!!! You can’t have enough Q & A time with Ted. I think everyone will really enjoy it and have a good time. With the economy this year, it seems like this is a great idea and getting the book is really a bonus. Thanks Kevin.

Could I suggest Wheaton College for the Chicago Gathering? Since I both lived in Wheaton and attended the college, that would be very nice for me.

Since Ted has a lot of teenage readers, the college might like getting some of them there to look the place over, and the students might be able to combine a trip to look at a school with the Gathering.

What happened to the idea about the writer’s workshop? I hope that can still happen sometime.

I’m really liking the idea of simplifying it to the essence of what I personally loved about the Gathering: chilling with Ted and the Circle. Awesome!

But alas, the whole April part kills any chance of me coming.

Hmm.. April probably rules me out too, but we’ll see. Unfortunately, Chicago is much closer to home than it is to my school, which is where I’ll be in April.

This sounds awesome. Are you going to be at both of them, Kevin?

(Oh, and by the way, love the cool-factor you added to your site with the unfolding Ted Dekker link!)

I echo what you said, Benjamin. While I absolutely LOVED The Gathering 2009, including the dancers and reenactment of the Great Romance, my most enjoyable moments were spent sitting in the front, listening to Ted answer questions and interacting with the Circle. He’s awesome with a microphone in his hands! I’ll have to find a way to attend.

Yeah, we really like the idea of simplifying it, too. It also makes it easier to pull off since we’ll be on the road for Ted’s Bride Collector book tour at the same time. And I’ll be running both, so if any of you are coming be sure to say hi.
